Navigation and mountain confidence

Navigation courses in North Wales

Practical mountain navigation and safety training for walkers, parents, friends and groups who want to feel more independent outdoors.

Become more confident in the mountains

This is for people who want to understand what they are doing rather than just follow someone else’s line on a map. Sessions can be shaped around personal progression, taking friends or children out safely, DofE-style skills, or simply becoming more capable when plans change.

The aim is to get you independent in the mountains and hopefully see you taking the lead on your own adventures.

  • Map reading and setting the map
  • Compass bearings, pacing and timing
  • Route choice, relocation and handrails
  • Weather, escape routes and decision-making
  • Planning realistic days for families, friends and groups
